Showing Up
The Showing Up site is now up and running.
Riad and I have been working on a documentary called Showing Up about the actors audition process. You can see some stills and find out a little bit more about it here.
In this feature length documentary, we celebrate the resolve and resilience necessary for an actor to simply show up, as our finest actors reflect on their most memorable audition experiences, what the process is, and how they feel about it. Showing Up is a fond acknowledgment of the many facets of an actor's mission to break in and seize the moment when it's offered. It's also a deep look at the courage and fortitude it takes to keep going back into the room time and time again. Whether you're an artist or not and regardless of the path you've chosen, we think you'll find something here that speaks to you.
Part of the proceeds from Showing Up will be donated to the Screen Actor's Guild Foundation and the Actor's Fund of America.
We're in production and have interviewed over 40 actors so far in NY and LA and are in the process of editing now.
Our plan is to launch a website this month that will include a blog/your stories page. A combination of our record of the making of Showing Up and any audition stories actors might like to share.
If you have any great audition stories or philosophy on the subject, we'd love to include them. If you remember hearing any great stories from friends and could forward this on to them that would be great, too. We're trying to avoid the "how to" of auditioning and nothing mean spirited please.
